Orlando Magic restricted free agent Tobias Harris is seeking a max offer sheet this summer, and the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics may be prepared to pony up that max, or near-max, deal, according to Shams Charania of RealGM.
If Harris inks that big offer sheet, there’s a good chance the Magic don’t match. Orlando just drafted Mario Hezonja with the fifth pick in the draft, and the talented European could slide right into a void left by Harris if he leaves.
Both the Pistons and Celtics could use an upgrade on the wing and have the money to spend, and Harris just finished up the best season of his career. He averaged 17.1 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 46.6 percent overall and 36.4 percent from three. That three-point percentage set a career high. There are questions defensively about Harris, but he’s still just 22 and has room to grow.
The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks also are expected to pursue Harris.
