Heat Trade Zoran Dragic to Celtics

Bill Streicher/USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Heat traded point guard Shabazz Napier over the weekend, and now the Heat have also dealt away Zoran Dragic, the brother of Goran Dragic:

There are multiple picks involved in the deal:

The Boston Celtics have a glut of guards on their roster, and it looks like Dragic will be waived, giving him an opportunity to sign somewhere more to his liking. He could also wind up back in Europe:

While the Heat are sending cash to Boston to cover Dragic’s salary, this trade still helps reduce the team’s luxury tax payment. Miami has now traded away two guards in Napier and Dragic over the past few days, and ESPN’s Marc Stein says Mario Chalmers still could be dealt as well to further reduce the tax burden. The Heat have youngsters Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson in place as backup guards, although they’re mostly unproven.

Dragic only appeared in 16 games this past season and played 4.7 minutes per game, with over half of his minutes coming in the last game of the year, when he scored 22 points in 41 minutes.
