Today’s Sunday schedule includes six games, and five games on the “main” slate.
We will be focusing on only those five later games that tip off at 6 p.m. EST. Here are my favorite plays for that early game – Toronto at the Clippers – if you find yourself stuck on a lineup:
PG – Kyle Lowry (TOR)
SG – DeMar DeRozan (TOR)
SF – DeMarre Carroll (TOR)
PF – Blake Griffin (LAC)
C – Bismack Biyombo (TOR)
BONUS: Patrick Patterson (TOR) should be a nice punt play at power forward.
I’ll try to make this short and sweet with a mere five games to dissect, but first, today’s news and notes:
- Kevin Durant (hamstring) remains out Sunday. There were rumblings that he would return, but it wasn’t meant to be.
- Jonas Valanciunas (hand) is out for six weeks. Luis Scola, Patrick Patterson and Bismack Biyombo should all get boosts in his absence.
- Marcus Smart (knee) is out tonight for the Celtics. Avery Bradley and Evan Turner should see increased opportunity with Smart inactive.
- It looks like Nikola Jokic will continue to start for the Nuggets, making him a solid punt option at center, even against the Warriors.
Remember to check the news up until tip-off:
BUILDING BLOCKS – Studs and Must-Have Values to Build Your Core Lineup
Damian Lillard, PG, POR ($8,700): It’s difficult to pass on both Russell Westbrook and Stephen Curry, but Lillard’s price and matchup put him on par with those players in terms of value. The Lakers have been competitive enough at home that I’m not worried about a blowout factor here, either.
Roy Hibbert, C, LAL ($4,800): My other building block for tonight is Hibbert, who plays in the same game as Lillard. The reason behind rostering Hibbert in cash tonight is two-fold. First, he’s cheap enough to open up value elsewhere. Second, he’s been remarkably consistent hitting at least 25 DraftKings points in each of his last five. He seems to be a solid play tonight.
Three more studs to consider: Russell Westbrook, PG, OKC ($12,300) – Stephen Curry, PG, GS ($10,900) – Eric Bledsoe, SG, PHX ($8,400)
BARGAINS – Complementary Players & Punt Plays
Deron Williams, PG, DAL ($5,500): Point guard is extremely deep tonight, but Williams is probably the best “punt” option of the bunch. A matchup with the Thunder promises to be fast-paced game, which only boosts his value on this slate.
Isaiah Thomas, PG, BOS ($7,400): Thomas at an awkward price point considering the other options on this slate, but he still isn’t a bad option. He has at least 35 DraftKings points in each of his last five games, and is firmly entrenched in the Celtics’ starting lineup. If you can squeeze him in your lineup, he’ll likely be worth it here.
Avery Bradley, SG, BOS ($5,000): Marcus Smart (knee) is going to miss today’s game, so Bradley gets a bit of a boost. He’s been on fire recently, exceeding value each time out this week, and increased opportunity should add fuel to that hot streak.
Joe Johnson, SF, BKN ($5,200): Johnson is pretty safe for cash despite only playing 18 minutes last time out. Assuming another blowout isn’t coming, the Nets’ veteran should be able to put together the 25 DraftKings points we need from him tonight.
Al-Farouq Aminu, SF, POR ($6,200): Aminu is probably the safest option at small forward tonight given his all-around contributions and tasty matchup. If you don’t mind paying up a little bit, this is the move to make.
Draymond Green, PF, GS ($7,400): Green is my top power forward of the night outside of Anthony Davis, but you have to like the savings that Green provides. A matchup with the Nuggets is sweet, and Green has been putting up triple-double stats a good stretch of this season.
Serge Ibaka, PF, OKC ($6,700): Ibaka has disappointed his last two games, but it’s tough to fade him in a solid matchup. Kevin Durant is out again tonight, so Ibaka should have plenty of opportunity to get himself back on track.
Mason Plumlee, C, POR ($5,500): Another value play at center here, and the matchup is great against the Lakers. I don’t mind using Plumlee at the utility spot if you have the budget for it.
LOTTERY TICKETS – Five Tournament Plays
Jarrett Jack, PG, BKN ($6,200): The Celtics can hound guards and Jack is coming off of a bad game in a blowout, so I expect his ownership to be down. If he can go back to his previous form (35+ DraftKings points), he’ll be a nice GPP play.
Klay Thompson, SG, GS ($6,100): The matchup is great and more people are going to be on the higher priced point guards. He’s GPP-only for me because of his inconsistent play this season.
Andre Iguodala, SF, GS ($5,000): Small forward isn’t great tonight, but I like Iguodala’s upside in GPPs. He’s cash usable too, given how he’s playing, though I prefer some of the safer options that I’ve mentioned.
Dirk Nowitzki, PF, DAL ($6,300): Dirk has put up 30 DraftKings points in each of his last three, and a matchup with the Thunder should provide him plenty of opportunities.
Enes Kanter, C, OKC ($5,100): If Kanter gets near the 42 DraftKings points he put up against the Pelicans two games ago, he’s the tournament play of the night. The minutes just aren’t there to consider him in cash though.
BUYER’S REMORSE – Reasons for Skepticism
Ish Smith, PG, NO ($6,000): Unless he’s starting, I don’t really want any of Smith in my lineups. He appears to be primed to come off the bench tonight.
Will Barton, SG, DEN ($5,600): I still like Barton long term, but his price isn’t favorable and neither is the matchup.
