The Toronto Raptors have two All-Star caliber guards, but teams can never have enough depth so it appears. According to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports’ The Vertical, Toronto has acquired the D-League rights and plans to sign guard Brady Heslip to a partially guaranteed deal.

Heslip, a Toronto native, played with Pallacanestro Cantu of the Italian Serie A Basketball League in 2015-2016 and averaged 12.7 points while shooting 45.8 percent in 26.9 minutes per game. Heslip also played for Team Canada at the 2015 Pan-Am Games and at the FIBA Americas Championship.

The 26-year-old’s best attribute is his outside shot, which will be his fastest path to a NBA roster. Heslip set a D-League record in 2014 with 13 three-pointers made in one game against Idaho. He tallied 45 points in the same contest.

In his one D-League season, he averaged 24.5 points and 5.7 three-pointers per game over the course of 16 contests.

Prior to turning professional, Heslip played three years at Baylor, averaging 11.7 points while shooting 46.5 percent from beyond the arc as a senior in 2013-2014. In 112 games with the Bears, he averaged 15.1 points, two rebounds, 1.4 assists and 4.8 three-pointers per contest. More than 85 percent of his field goal attempts in college were from behind the three-point line.

The fact that Toronto also acquired his D-League rights indicates that he will stay with the organization even if he doesn’t make the team in training camp. The Raptors traded the rights to Ronald Roberts to the Reno Bighorns in order to acquire the rights to Heslip.

Toronto managed a decent percentage from behind the three-point line, but they were just tied for 13th in three-pointers made per game last season
