Hornets’ Jeremy Lamb out with strained left hamstring

The Charlotte Hornets announced on Monday morning that guard Jeremy Lamb suffered a strained left hamstring during the team’s Saturday matchup against the Boston Celtics. He left that game in the second quarter and did not return.

The team says that he will be reevaluated in one-to-two weeks and will be out at least until then.

Through three games this season, Lamb is averaging seven points, four rebounds and one assist per contest. Perhaps still best known as part of the return that the Oklahoma City Thunder received in the now infamous James Harden trade, he has averaged 7.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in his five-year NBA career.

He has only started eight games thus far into his NBA tenure, however.

Entering Saturday’s game against Boston, Lamb was coming off a 16-point, eight-rebound performance in 22 minutes of action against the Miami Heat. He was playing well before the injury with five points, three rebounds and one steal in just over nine minutes of playing time.

He now notably joins center Roy Hibbert, who is out with a knee injury, on the team’s injury report.

The Hornets opened the season with wins over the Milwaukee Bucks and Heat before losing to the Celtics Saturday. They are looking to return to the playoffs yet again after losing in the first-round last year at the hands of the Heat while entering the postseason with the sixth-best record in the Eastern Conference at 48-34. Charlotte has retained essentially the entirety of last year’s core, so the plan seems to be continuity and internal development.
