Chicago Bulls’ shooting guard Dwyane Wade sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated last month. As a result, the veteran leader discussed nearly joining the Bulls in the summer 2010, what made him ultimately decide to go home to Chicago as well as a variety of other topics.

However, perhaps most notably, Wade was asked at the very end of the conversation if he has played his final game for the Miami Heat.

“I don’t know,” said Wade. “I never thought I would not be there. At this point in my career, I’ve been asked that, and it’s not a focus of mine. I’m happy where I am. I gave Miami everything I had for 13 years. The years I have left, hopefully I can give as much to Chicago. You never know what the future holds so you never want to say yes or no. Anything is possible. But, I’m cool right now. I’m good.”

Wade being mum on the idea of a reunion with the Heat isn’t much of a surprise considering his apparent acrimonious departure just a few months ago. Plus, he is now a member of the Bulls, so openly discussing future plans to return to a conference rival might be a strange look.

He previously signed a two-year deal with Chicago that includes a player option for next season, so he could return to Miami as soon as next summer if he were so inclined. The Bulls underwent significant changes this past offseason that included the respective departures of franchise stalwarts in point guard Derrick Rose and center Joakim Noah. Along with Wade, Chicago added point guard Rajon Rondo, center Robin Lopez and guard Michael Carter-Williams.

Wade will suit up in a Bulls’ uniform for the first time in regular season action on October 27 against the Boston Celtics.
