Winners and Losers in Free Agency so Far

JUN 11 Finals - Warriors at Cavaliers - Game 4

Free agency has started officially, and several teams are helping themselves. Others, though, are inexplicably shooting themselves in the foot.

Some teams — like the Chicago Bulls who kept Jimmy Butler for another five years and Mike Dunleavy for another three — are winners, just by maintaining the status quo.

The San Antonio Spurs could still be the biggest winner of the offseason, pending the decision of LaMarcus Aldridge. But until that happens officially, we can’t include them on our list (though retaining the services of Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard is still notable).

The Atlanta Hawks are both winners and losers. They kept Paul Millsap and added Tiago Splitter but lost DeMarre Carroll to the Toronto Raptors.

The Los Angeles Clippers have added Lance Stephenson and Paul Pierce, although both are risky. Stephenson could turn psychotic and/or meltdown at the drop of a hat and destroy team chemistry. Pierce brings maturity and had a big postseason, but he’s also a 38-year-old wing.

And DeAndre Jordan is out making decisions about where his future will be.

The Indiana Pacers added Monta Ellis but have lost David West.

So many teams are both winners and losers Right now, though; there are two teams who have been clear winners this offseason and two more that are definitive losers.
