New Dallas Mavericks swingman Wesley Matthews is still on the mend after suffering a devastating Achilles injury last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, but Matthews is making good progress as he tries to recover in time for the Mavericks’ opener on Oct. 28:

Matthews suffered his injury in March, an injury that was effectively the beginning of the end for that version of Portland. The Trail Blazers floundered in the playoffs, leading to a mass exodus that included Matthews, LaMarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum and Robin Lopez.
Matthews signed with the Mavericks this summer, and despite his injury, he was rewarded with a bigger contract than initially agreed upon thanks to DeAndre Jordan’s flip-flop. While Matthews is hoping he’ll be ready for Dallas’ opener, it still seems a bit unlikely that he’ll be ready considering it’s just a little over two weeks away.
Chandler Parsons is also recovering from a significant surgery, and he isn’t taking contact just yet.
