The Golden State Warriors already have the best backcourt in the league, and now the Warriors are on the verge of hiring one of the best point guards ever to mentor them, as ESPN’s Marc Stein reports Steve Nash is in negotiations to become a part-time consultant for the team.
Nash officially announced his retirement from the NBA in March after several injury-plagued seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and president Rick Welts have been lobbying the great point guard to join the staff. Nash did some mentoring for Lakers point guard Jordan Clarkson last season and has worked with several young point guards this summer.
Interestingly enough, the Dallas Mavericks, one of Nash’s former teams, were hoping to get the 41-year-old to come out of retirement and return to Dallas for the 2015-16 season. However, the injuries have simply taken their toll on him, and he’s said he’d only play for the Lakers if he was ever physically able to play again.
