With all the front office turmoil going on with the Sacramento Kings and rumors that DeMarcus Cousins was upset about what happened this past season, there’s been speculation that the Kings may look to trade their star big man. But Vlade Divac, who’s basically the head of basketball operations at this point, says “that’s not happening,” according to Ailene Voisin of The Sacramento Bee.
This echoes what owner Vivek Ranadive has said in the past, and of course it makes sense for these guys to say they aren’t trading Cousins. However, they probably should be believed. It would be pretty crazy to trade him when he just recently signed a huge extension and is coming off his most productive season.
Cousins averaged a career-high 24.1 points, 12.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists this past season while shooting 46.7 percent from the field. The Kings should try to build around Cousins, and if things don’t work out and it looks like he may bolt in free agency in a few years, then a deal should be made.
