Last week, TMZ released video of Philadelphia 76ers big man Jahlil Okafor getting in a fight outside a Boston bar. Okafor wasn’t suspended for the incident, but in the days since, other news has trickled out about some of his transgressions. And Wednesday, TMZ released a video of another fight that occurred in Boston the same night as the first scuffle.
This fight occurred after the first one and again involved Okafor getting into it with a heckler. All hell broke loose and a man was knocked out cold, and TMZ reports that it was the Sixers big man who threw the “haymaker” that knocked the man out. The Boston Police Department is looking into the case, and charges will likely be filed.
It’s hard to imagine Okafor not getting some kind of suspension at this point. It was surprising he didn’t get one originally, but now either the league or the Sixers should make it a point to discipline him, because this kind of behavior shouldn’t be tolerated.
All of this doesn’t necessarily mean Okafor is a bad guy or that there are bound to be plenty of problems with him in the future, but these are some troublesome mistakes, and the team should do whatever they can to ensure this kind of stuff doesn’t happen again. Hopefully he’s learned his lesson.
