The Kings haven’t shown much interest in such a deal, although it doesn’t seem like talks are dead. Lawson would be a nice fit in Sacramento under George Karl, who coached the point guard in Denver. However, Darren Collison is a solid point guard in his own right, and giving up the No. 6 pick likely isn’t worth the upgrade.
From the Nuggets’ side, the deal makes plenty of sense. It appears clear that Denver is ready to move on from Lawson, who wasn’t exactly happy there last season. While he’s still a good player on a palatable contract, getting the No. 6 pick in exchange for him (and likely some salary filler) as the team rebuilds under new head coach Mike Malone would be a nice little coup. We’ll see if these talks advance anywhere.
