Tony Allen Plans on Playing in Game 6 Despite ‘Severe’ Injury

Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen missed Game 5 of their second-round series against the Golden State Warriors because of a hamstring injury, but Allen plans on giving it a go in Game 6:

Allen put himself at about 60 percent, but Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger said the injury is pretty bad:

That certainly doesn’t sound great for Memphis’ chances, although just having Allen back on the floor in any capacity could be a boost. The Grizzlies’ defense was hopeless in Game 5 with Allen sidelined, as the Warriors got plenty of clean looks from three and also killed it in transition.

At this point, Allen’s presence might not make any difference at all. Golden State has found its groove again, and even when he played in Game 4, he was completely ineffective in a blowout loss. The Warriors didn’t even bother guarding him, and that helped kill Memphis’ offense when he was on the court.

But Allen is part of the Grizzlies’ identity, and if they’re going to lose, hopefully they go down in as gritty and grindy a way as possible.
