Bulls Head Coach Tom Thibodeau is ‘Gone,’ per Report

The Chicago Bulls’ season came to a stunning end on Thursday night, with the Bulls going out meekly to a wounded Cleveland Cavaliers team, 94-73. The Tom Thibodeau situation has hung over Chicago like a dark cloud for much of the year, and now with the season over, Thibodeau’s time with the Bulls is expected to be finished.

It’s basically just a matter of time, as ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that Thibs is “gone” and both sides know it. Countless other reporters have reported similar, and now the questions turn to when and how the split occurs, if the Bulls can get any compensation for Thibodeau, and then who ultimately replaces him.

The Orlando Magic and New Orleans Pelicans are two teams with known interest in Thibodeau, and Stein says there’s mutual interest with the Pelicans. There’s also this:

The Bulls would like to extract a draft pick or two for Thibodeau, but Chicago doesn’t have much leverage in this situation, so who knows how that goes.

As for a replacement, Fred Hoiberg is the most popular name out there and it sounds like it’s his job if he wants it. However, there’s no guarantee Hoiberg bolts Iowa State, especially after recently undergoing a heart procedure. Bulls assistant coach Adrian Griffin could be an option, but perhaps the most intriguing name is Alvin Gentry:

The Bulls want to improve their offense, and Gentry is an offensive guy. They also want somebody who gets along with management:

Needless to say, this is going to be an interesting offseason in Chicago.
