The Starting 5 – Steph Curry with the Shot

1.  Outsider Artist: Understanding the Beauty of Steph Curry’s Jumper – Kirk Goldsberry, Grantland

Read an excellent piece by Goldsberry detailing the brilliance of Stephen Curry‘s jump shot. Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate greatness when it comes along, and Kirk does a great job in breaking down the numbers to explain why Curry is the most creative great shooter the world has ever seen.

2. The Splash Fathers Know Best – Tom Friend, ESPN

This awesome piece by ESPN highlights the relationship between the Thompson’s and the Curry’s, which goes far far beyond just the backcourt mates that are known as the ‘Splash Brothers.’ This article has some great sources and has so many cool little nuggets of wisdom – did you know that Steph’s Uncle is Muggsy Bogues? Or that Klay Thompson‘s Uncle is the one and only Kobe Bryant? I highly recommend this article, which goes back to the days when both Steph and Klay were young kids, with their professional basketball playing parents both bringing them to the arena to get a taste of the NBA life.

3. Why Does the Internet Hate ESPN Reporter Brian “The LeBron Whisperer” Windhorst? – Jordan Zirm, Complex

A very interesting Complex article on Brian Windhorst, the oft made fun of reporter who’s now almost synonymous with LeBron James. It’s so cool to really understand why Windhorst is in the position he’s in today. More than anything, it shows how hard that he has worked and really shows his dedication and importance to the game (in terms of covering the NBA). Sometimes we all need to take a step back from the hip Internet trends and do some research before forming an opinion. Good on Complex to open up on Windhorst’s life, as it really makes one appreciate him much more.

4. Adam Silver plans to put off lottery reform for at least one more year – Eric Freeman, Yahoo! Sports’ Ball Don’t Lie

Read about how NBA commissioner Adam Silver plans to hold off improving the problem of tanking in the NBA. Next year, the worst team in the NBA will still receive the same 25 percent odds of the first pick like the Timberwolves did this year, but after that Silver plans on figuring ways to reform the current lottery.

5. Curry, Harden, Davis Cover Athletes for Spike-Lee Directed NBA 2K16 – Sports Illustrated Extra Mustard

Every athlete dreams to be on the cover of a video game at one point in their career, and it’s kind of a bummer that the trio has to share the glory of being a cover athlete. I personally would have just placed Curry on the cover, and since NBA 2K is the premier basketball video game, it’s kind of a slight to Curry to have to share the status of cover athlete with two other athletes. There’s an improved storyline that’s directed by Spike Lee, which to me is the cherry on top of the sundae – 2K has had a stranglehold on the basketball video game world, and it impresses me that 2K still comes out with great innovations and improvements each year.
