The Phoenix Suns are in the process of calling up point guard Bryce Cotton from the San Antonio Spurs’ D-League affiliate, the Austin Spurs, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.
The Suns have an open roster spot, so they don’t have to make any corresponding roster move. Starting guard Eric Bledsoe is dealing with a knee issue, which is likely why Phoenix is making this acquisition.
Cotton, 23, has been tearing it up in Austin this season after being waived by the Utah Jazz in the preseason. In four D-League outings, he’s averaged 22 points and 4.5 assists in 34.8 minutes per game. Those 22 points per game have come on 58.7 percent shooting overall and 61.9 percent from long range.
Cotton appeared in 15 games for the Jazz last season, averaging 5.3 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 10.6 minutes per game. He shot 42 percent overall and 35 percent from three.
