The Phoenix Suns dealt away a very valuable draft asset in order to acquire Brandon Knight at the trade deadline, so it’s little surprise that the Suns are prepared to pay him the big bucks to stick around. Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times reports Knight will sign a five-year, $70 million deal to stay with Phoenix.
Knight made little impact with the Suns after the trade as he dealt with injuries, but he was having a career year with the Milwaukee Bucks before the trade. At just 23 years old, the youngster has a lot of promise, although this is a pretty lucrative contract for a player who really hasn’t been a big difference-maker in his career.
What makes this situation even more interesting is Phoenix is still trying to deal Eric Bledsoe, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. The Suns just inked Bledsoe to his own five-year, $70 million deal last offseason, but are now trying to offload him with Knight set for his payday. Sean Deveney of Sporting News says the Sacramento Kings are interested.
