Suns Make Splashes by Adding Tyson Chandler, Re-Signing Brandon Knight

For a season and a half, the Phoenix Suns were an entertaining underdog trying to crack the hierarchy of Western playoff teams, until the Goran Dragic fiasco forced them to shake up their roster. Now they’re gearing up for another run:

The deal turned out to be four years, $52 million for the soon-to-be 33 year old. Chandler gives them a defensive anchor who’s a great communicator, which could prove to be a big addition for their young core that’s still developing. He’s considered one of the best locker room presences in the league as well:

The Spurs appear to be the overwhelming favorite for LaMarcus Aldridge, but Phoenix made a positive impression on him, per Sam Amick. An attempt at imagining how their conversation at the meeting went:

One problem for Phoenix is that Chandler took up its cap space, so they’d need to make room for Aldridge. Rather than offload ancillary¬†contracts, there could be a bigger move in mind:

Bledsoe is apparently on the market anyway, and sending him to Portland would be simpler than exploring multiple trades, negotiating over draft picks as compensation, or rearranging the entire depth chart.

One Sun who isn’t going anywhere is Brandon Knight:

Knight was acquired from Milwaukee in a deal that cost Phoenix a valuable future pick belonging to the Lakers, 2014 first-rounder Tyler Ennis and Miles Plumlee.
