Surprise! Reigning MVP Stephen Curry was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Oct. 27-Nov. 1, the league announced Monday. Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
Curry enjoyed an absurd week in which he averaged a league-high 39.3 points in three victories. He scored 40 points in the Warriors’ season opener against the New Orleans Pelicans, and then he posted 53 points several nights later in New Orleans:
Curry is shooting 58.8 percent overall and 48.6 from three-point land.
Drummond’s Pistons squad is also 3-0, which is a bit more surprising. The young big man has been the centerpiece of their hot start, averaging 18.7 points and a league-best 16.3 rebounds. In a thrilling overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls, he notched his first 20-20 game of the season with 20 points and 20 rebounds. He recorded double-doubles in all three victories:
Don’t be surprised if these two win plenty more of these awards, especially Curry.
