Rodriguez was a first-round pick in 2006 and was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Portland Trail Blazers on draft night. The point guard made his debut that year after securing a buyout from his European club and spent four years in the NBA before returning to Europe.
Rodriguez has been a key player for Real Madrid the last five seasons, and he was the consensus Euroleague Player of the Year in 2014. He’s accomplished a lot over in Europe and is still just 29 years old, so this would be a perfect time to head back to the NBA. The buyout provision in his Real Madrid contract reportedly isn’t an obstacle.
Rodriguez may not be starting point guard caliber in the NBA, but he could be a successful backup if given the right opportunity. He didn’t do much in his first NBA go-round, but after more development in Europe, he’s ready to make a bigger impact in the best league on the planet.
