Former Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks will pass on interview opportunities with the New Orleans Pelicans and Denver Nuggets and will likely take the year off, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.
Brooks was fired last month after the Thunder failed to reach the postseason. He coached in Oklahoma City for seven seasons and enjoyed quite a bit of success, but now Billy Donovan has taken over to try and get the Thunder that elusive title.
Wojnarowski says Brooks wants to coach again, but he wants to take the next year to look at opportunities in television and to spend time with his family in California.
The Pelicans would have been an attractive job for Brooks, but all indications were that he was behind Tom Thibodeau and Alvin Gentry in the pecking order for coaching candidates. There hasn’t been as much chatter about the Nuggets job, and Brooks likely would have had a better chance at that gig.
