‘Saturday Night NBA on ABC’ Coming in 2016

Bob Donnan/USA TODAY Sports

A new weekly prime-time NBA series will be coming next season with the debut of Saturday Night NBA on ABC on Jan. 23. The eight-game slate will feature “the sport’s biggest stars and most compelling matchups,” with games starting at 8:30 p.m. ET and ESPN and ABC’s pregame show NBA Countdown on before tip-off.

With these new prime-time Saturday night games, the Sunday doubleheader on ABC is no more. However, there will still be one game on ABC Sunday afternoons. ESPN will continue to feature doubleheaders on Wednesday and Friday nights.

The Sunday doubleheaders were always enjoyable, but those early games could sometimes be a bit rough for the players, and it looks like those are done. So this is a positive for them.
