Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook and Washington Wizards center Marcin Gortat were named Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Dec. 21-27.
Westbrook averaged 28 points, 8.8 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 steals during a 3-1 week for Oklahoma City. The electric Thunder guard nearly notched his fourth triple-double of the season in his last game when he put up 30 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds in Sunday’s win over the Denver Nuggets.
Gortat played a key role in the Wizards going 3-0 last week. The big man averaged 21.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and nearly two blocks, and he tallied two double-doubles. His biggest performance was a 27-point, 16-rebound masterpiece against DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings.
This is the first time Gortat has earned Player of the Week honors in his career.
