The Houston Rockets became just the ninth team in NBA history to overcome a 3-1 series deficit by beating the Los Angeles Clippers in Sunday’s Game 7, 113-100. The last team to pull this feat off was the 2006 Phoenix Suns, who came back against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Rockets also did it 20 years ago against Phoenix.
This Rockets team looked dead in the water after losing the three of the first four games of the series. The Clippers won Game 1 without Chris Paul and won Games 3 and 4 in blowout fashion. Los Angeles looked like a team capable of possibly beating the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.
Instead, Houston will get that chance after completing the stunning comeback. The Clippers played tight after blowing that 19-point second-half lead at home in Game 6, and the Rockets rode the electric crowd to a fast start. Los Angeles hung around and got to within three points in the third quarter, but then Houston blew the game wide open.
Things got tense in the final minutes, but the Rockets held on and will now face the league-best Warriors in the West Finals.
