With Terrence Jones and Patrick Beverley set to return from injuries, the Houston Rockets waived veteran forward Chuck Hayes on Sunday, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.
Jones has been dealing with an eye injury and Beverley recently suffered a concussion, but both players are expected to play against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. Jones missed the last five games with his injury.
Hayes, 32, hoped to sign with the Rockets this offseason before joining the Los Angeles Clippers in camp. The Clippers waived the veteran big man, but the Rockets snatched him up because of their injury problems.
Hayes appeared in two games for the Rockets before being released. He averaged two points and four rebounds in 12 minutes per game. He’ll likely stay on the team’s radar if more injury issues crop up and they need bodies.
Houston is reportedly interested in giving Hayes a job on the coaching staff, but the big man wants to continue his playing career before making that type of move.
