Report: Matt Barnes in Physical Altercation with Derek Fisher

In a story too strange for the Onion, Matt Barnes and Derek Fisher were engaged in a physical altercation over the allegation that Fisher is dating Barnes ex-wife, according to Ian Mohr of the New York Post:

Knicks coach Derek Fisher is involved in a romantic relationship with the estranged wife of his former teammate Matt Barnes — and when Barnes found out over the weekend, he allegedly attacked Fisher, sources tell Page Six.

And Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is confirming this on Twitter:

According to the Post, Barnes drove 95 miles to  “beat the s–t” out of Fisher.”

The source added, “Barnes was in Santa Barbara [at Memphis Grizzlies training camp] and heard that Fisher was in his house. He went crazy. He got in his car and went to the house and went after Fisher.”

So think about that. Barnes is in training camp, gets the news. He drops everything, goes to his car and drives 95 miles to accost the romantic rival of his ex-lover. That’s soap opera stuff right there. That takes a special kind of mad.

The Post also alleges that was the reason Fisher missed the Knicks’ practice the following day, but there are conflicting reports:

Another source said that the altercation was the reason Fisher missed Knicks practice on Monday — but others said that he had been traveling back to New York on Sunday and was delayed because of plane trouble. The Knicks tweeted on Monday that Fisher was “not at practice due to personal reasons — expected back tomorrow.” He was in LA visiting his kids.

Fisher isn’t pressing charges against Barnes, who is apparently over being “past the crush stage” with Rihanna.
