Report: Brandon Jennings Will Head to D-League Before Returning to Pistons in Late December

Tim Fuller/USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Pistons guard Brandon Jennings tweeted, and then deleted, that he’d be playing in a D-League game this weekend as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury. Jennings then said Wednesday there’s an “80 percent” chance he’d play in a D-League game on Saturday, according to Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.

CSN Chicago’s Vincent Goodwill, formerly a Pistons beat writer, reported similar and also said the 26-year-old plans to make his return to NBA action against the New York Knicks on Dec. 29.

Jennings tore his Achilles in late January, and it’s been a long road back from the injury. However, he’s been participating in practice of late, and it appears he’s finally close to returning.

The return of Jennings should bolster a Pistons bench that’s struggled much of the year. He also will have the chance to showcase himself for a possible trade, as he’s a free agent at the end of the year and doesn’t have a future in Detroit as a starter with Reggie Jackson in place.
