Report: Ankle Surgery Delaying Glen Davis Signing

It’s not often that veteran big men in their 20s who try on defense and have playoff experience haven’t found a team as fall approaches, but that’s the situation Glen Davis has found himself in. Still just 29, Davis remains on the market. Now it seems there’s a reason for that:

In his post on the news, Spears notes that the injury occurred in Game 6 of the epic Clippers-Spurs first-round playoff series. Many who witnessed the play live initially thought the worst and understandably wondered about very serious damage, only for those fears to be assuaged when Davis returned for the rest of their postseason run, which ended in a seven-game series loss to the Rockets.

Turns out he did suffer damage significant enough for surgery, but light enough that the majority of his 2016 season doesn’t appear to be in jeopardy. Spears also shares that prior to finding out the details on his ankle, both the Clippers and Mavericks were interested in his services (a scenario that, for some, may trigger déjà vu from the DeAndre Jordan fiasco). As the season approaches and contenders find their big-man rotation lacking, Davis would seem to be one of the first names to get a call once he gets healthy.
