The Detroit Pistons have recalled Brandon Jennings from the D-League after a strong performance for the Grand Rapids Drive on Saturday night, according to Yahoo Sports’ Marc Spears.
Jennings went to the D-League for a tuneup before he makes his return to the Pistons from an Achilles injury. The guard had 11 points and a game-high 12 assists in 27 minutes for Grand Rapids, and he thought the stint helped him out a lot. Now it seems Detroit thinks he’s ready for real action.
Jennings tore his Achilles in late January and has slowly been working his way back into action. His return should help a Pistons bench unit that’s struggled much of the year, especially with Jodie Meeks hurting as well.
Even with the weak bench, Detroit sits at 16-12, which is good for eighth in the Eastern Conference. There’s been some talk about trading Jennings, but he won’t have much value until he proves he can play after this injury. The Pistons may also want to think about keeping him to make a playoff push, even if that means losing him for nothing in the summer when he’s a free agent.
