North Carolina guard J.P. Tokoto has declared for the 2015 NBA Draft, and although the junior won’t sign with an agent immediately, he plans on staying in the draft, per Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.
Tokoto isn’t viewed as a first-round pick among scouts, but that doesn’t bother him at all:
“Going in, I know I’m not a first-round pick,” Tokoto told Yahoo Sports. “I know my jumper needs work, and I’m putting in that work now – and will keep doing it. My jumper is something that has me as a second-round pick right now, but I have a mindset of work to improve the form and range of my shot.”
Tokoto is an excellent athlete and strong defender, as he was an All-ACC First Team defender for the Tar Heels this season. He’s also a solid distributor, averaging 4.3 assists on the year.
As Tokoto mentioned, his jumper needs some work. While he shot a solid 37.5 percent from three on the season, it was on very low volume, and he was wretched shooting from long range his first two years at North Carolina. He’s also a very poor free throw shooter.
Tokoto is ranked No. 52 on DraftExpress’ top 100 prospects list, and he’ll likely get drafted in the second round.
