NBA News Roundup: Marc Gasol Not Meeting Other Teams in Free Agency

With free agency approaching and numerous deadlines for contract options, it’s easy to miss the occasional bit of news. Here’s a roundup of some lesser news, as well as a big bit of news on one of the big fish in free agency.

Grit ‘n’ Signed?

As the team’s front office pursues perimeter help around him, it appears the Grizzlies don’t have to worry the way Portland does about losing its star player, though Stein notes it’s uncertain whether Marc Gasol wants a shorter deal like so many other free agents this summer or a full max deal.

Veterans opt in

Both Kirk Hinrich and Mike Miller were expected to be important contributors for their respective teams. Instead, the 2014-2015 season appears to be the year where they hit their expiration date. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see either retire in the summer of 2016.

No drama for Hezonja

Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel adds that Hezonja will play in a game or two of Summer League.

Extreme Makeover: Nets Edition?

The Nets are behind the eight-ball no matter what due to trading away a bundle of draft picks, but if they can clear out the old guard(s), retain Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young, then get lucky with developing young guys such as the recently-acquired Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, there might be at least a sense of hope for Brooklyn fans in the next few years.
