It’s the most wonderful time of the year – the NBA Playoffs. And as if our stockings weren’t already bursting at the seams, we have a full sleigh of uniform news that needs to be unwrapped.
Christmas in May
Per Paul Lukas at uniwatch.com, the NBA’s Christmas uniforms were released a mere seven months early. And they’re pretty darn sharp. Here’s one of my personal favorites.
According to Lukas, the script is intended to evoke that of a “fancy Christmas Card,” but without the grueling letter from that family friend who gives you every detail about their whitewater rafting trip from the previous summer. I think they’re pretty successful and a huge improvement over the infamous short-sleeved debacles.
So chins up, Knicks fans. When your team is inevitably cast to perform in front of a national holiday audience, the squad might not be able to acquit itself on the court, but at least they should be a sharp-looking embarrassment.
More Uniform Changes in the Works
We previously touched on logo changes that look Good (Bucks), Great (Sixers Alternate) and Sad Trombone. (Clippers) Impending uniform changes are on the horizon for these three teams as well as the Hawks and Raptors.
I’m not an Idea Man, but I sure have a lot of opinions. Since the team’s 1995 inception, I’ve never enjoyed the Raptors’ uniforms. And it looks like that might remain the case.
The franchise will reportedly release a “Drake Alternative” uniform that now historically connects the singer to Ben Franklin in a sure sign of our impending devolution into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The Drake uni isn’t a hypercolor chameleon pattern, but instead reportedly black with gold trim. An appropriate look for DeMar Derozan‘s contested long twos.
I haven’t seen a release of the Hawks’ new uniforms (their Christmas ones are, um, something), but one can only hope they find their way close to the home of the 80s throwbacks the team wore against the Cavaliers in March. It’s probably not a coincidence that this was one the team’s biggest statement games of the season. The uniforms are that great.
Surely more to come before the draft.
