So Day 1 of NBA free agency was pretty chaotic, with a bunch of big names agreeing to new deals. Some lesser names also came off the board. Let’s take a look at some of those other deals.
After inking backup center Alexis Ajinca to a deal earlier in the day, the Pelicans agreed to a five-year deal with their starting center. This is a rather steep price for Asik, although the final year of the deal is reportedly non-guaranteed.
As mentioned, Ajinca agreed to a new deal earlier in the day before Asik. The length of the deal is a bit surprising, but Ajinca was a solid backup last season.
With the Raptors agreeing to a lucrative deal with DeMarre Carroll and also looking at other free agents, Johnson moved on to Boston on a short-term deal. The forward is a solid player, but this wasn’t the splash Celtics fans were hoping for this offseason.
Crowder was a nice contributor after coming over from the Mavericks, although a five-year deal seems a bit excessive for yet another Celtics role player.
The Celtics re-sign another of their own, and this is a nice short deal for a useful player.
An absolute steal for the Grizzlies, who appear to be moving on from Kosta Koufos. Most people thought Wright would get more, so this is one of the best deals of the day.
Singler didn’t make the impact people hoped he would with the Thunder last season after coming over from Detroit, and five years is a bit much. But Singler can provide value as a versatile shooter.
