Mikhail Prokhorov Reportedly Wants to Own 100 Percent of Nets

Noah K. Murray/USA TODAY Sports

Brooklyn Nets majority owner Mikhail Prokhorov owns 80 percent of the team and 45 percent of the Barclays Center, but Prokhorov now wants to buy the remaining shares of the Nets and Barclays Center from minority owner Bruce Ratner, according to Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher:

There have been rumors about Prokhorov selling his stake in the team, and Bucher says that scenario is still a possibility. However, it’s more likely he goes “all-in” on the Nets and buys the remaining shares of the team and arena.

There were also rumblings that Joe Johnson was on the trade block, with the Cleveland Cavaliers mentioned as a possible destination. But now that the Nets have gotten under the luxury tax line thanks in large part to buying out Deron Williams, Johnson has been taken off the market because Prokhorov wants a team that can be as competitive as possible. Brooklyn has no draft assets, so it makes no sense for the team to tank.
