The Dallas Mavericks have waived veteran center Samuel Dalembert despite signing him to a guaranteed veteran’s minimum contract this summer, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports.
In the aftermath of the DeAndre Jordan flip-flop, the Mavericks were left scrambling for options at the center position. Dallas traded for Zaza Pachulia, and they also signed Dalembert, JaVale McGee and Salah Mejri. The McGee and Mejri deals were only partially guaranteed, but it looks like they’re both getting roster spots.
Dalembert, 34, showed up to training camp out of shape, and he didn’t distinguish himself enough in preseason. Now he’s set to be without a team, and he might have blown his last shot in the NBA.
Dalembert was awful with the New York Knicks last season, and he was bad enough to be waived and not get picked up the rest of the season. The Mavericks hoped the big man could turn things around, but that clearly didn’t happen.
