Memphis Grizzlies swingman Matt Barnes has been suspended two games for an off-court incident with New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher, according to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. The NBA officially announced the suspension shortly after the report was released.
The incident occurred way back during training camp in early October. The two men reportedly got in an altercation at the home of Barnes’s ex-wife, Gloria Govan, who Fisher was seeing. The 35-year-old claimed that he was just checking on his kids after he had communication with them that made him feel like they were uncomfortable.
It appears the NBA conducted a rather lengthy investigation on the matter and just now came to a resolution. Barnes is slated to miss the Grizzlies’ games against the Miami Heat on Tuesday and Utah Jazz on Saturday.
Barnes is averaging 8.6 points and 5.0 rebounds on the season. He’s seen a bigger role of late after getting moved into the starting lineup, although he’s slumped a bit over the last week.
