Marreese Speights Out a Week with Strained Calf

Golden State Warriors power forward Marreese Speights will miss at least a week with a strained right calf:

Speights suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 99-89 Game 3 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. He scored nine points in six minutes after scoring just two points in five minutes in Game 2.

Speights was a key contributor for Golden State in the regular season, averaging 10.4 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 49.2 percent from the field. However, the 27-year-old has done very little in the postseason. He’s averaging 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 34.5 percent in just 7.3 minutes per game.

With Speights out, expect Warriors head coach Steve Kerr to try out David Lee to see if the veteran big man can provide a spark:

Lee has appeared in just two playoff games after basically falling out of the rotation in the regular season. He didn’t play in Game 3 and has played nine minutes in this series, and he hasn’t made a single field goal. So this will be interesting as the Warriors try to rebound after two straight losses.
