With the fifth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic have taken international guard/forward Mario Hezonja. The Croatian swingman is one of the most talented prospects in this draft, and he could slide right into the lineup if Tobias Harris leaves in restricted free agency.
Hezonja combines a quick release with unlimited range on a 6-8, 215-pound frame. He has great athletic ability in the open floor and has a good enough handle to attack the rim or pull up for a jumper at any time.
Hezonja is one of the most competitive players in the draft, both a blessing and a curse, as it can be a detriment to the team at times. If Hezonja can channel that fiery nature positively, the sky is the limit for his talent. Defensively, he needs to add bulk onto his slight frame and work on his awareness off the ball, and both are improvable in time as he’s only 20 years old.
Hezonja already has a foundation of promising skills but still has a lot of room for growth. As he develops and gets in an NBA weight room, Hezonja will only improve. That’s why Hezonja was right there with Kristaps Porzingis as one of the top foreign prospects in this draft.
