Everybody figured Marc Gasol was heading back to the Memphis Grizzlies, and most thought a deal would be agreed upon rather quickly in free agency. It took a bit longer than expected, but Gasol has finally agreed to a new deal in Memphis:
Free agent Marc Gasol has agreed to a five-year, $100M-plus deal to return to the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

The contract reportedly has an early termination option in the fifth season.
Gasol has been with the Grizzlies for his entire seven-year career and grew up in the Memphis area when brother Pau played for the Grizzlies before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Marc’s been the centerpiece of Grit ‘n’ Grind for the last few years, winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2013.
While Gasol has always been an excellent defender and passer, he improved as a scorer this past season, putting up a career-high 17.4 points per game on 49.4 percent shooting.
With Gasol back, the Grizzlies will continue to be a power in the Western Conference. Memphis needs to show a bit more potency from long range to be a legitimate title contender, but the team will be competitive either way.
