LaMarcus Aldridge Undergoes Thumb Surgery

Portland Trail Blazers star LaMarcus Aldridge underwent surgery on his left thumb, the team announced Monday. Aldridge is expected to return to basketball activities in eight weeks.

Aldridge initially injured the thumb in late January and was going to undergo surgery then to repair a torn radial collateral ligament, but he opted to play through the issue so he didn’t have to miss time during the Blazers’ playoff push.

Aldridge really struggled in Portland’s disappointing 4-1 series loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round. While the 29-year-old averaged 21.8 points and 11.2 rebounds in the series, he shot a woeful 33.0 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from long range.

Following that playoff disappointment, the chatter has gotten louder about Aldridge possibly leaving Portland. Aldridge hails from Texas, which is why the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks are viewed as two possible destinations. The Boston Celtics are also rumored to have a lot of interest and may go after both Aldridge and his teammate, Wesley Matthews.
