The time before the NBA Draft always involves a bunch of smokescreens, so sometimes you don’t know what to believe. So keep that in mind when rumors like this come out:
Draft scuttle: Hearing Porzingis not only in play for Philly at No. 3 but now giving Lakers something to ponder at No. 2. Stock rising fast

There has been increasing chatter about the Philadelphia 76ers possibly taking Kristaps Porzingis at No. 3, but the Los Angeles Lakers taking the 7-foot Latvian over a guy like Jahlil Okafor would be pretty wild.
Porzingis is a talented prospect, but now he’s getting even more hype because he looked great in a workout in Las Vegas on Friday. Of course, that workout involved him going against nobody, so it’s pretty easy to look good when you’re tall, athletic and skilled and not being defended:
Here's more video from the Porzingis workout. He's incredible. Many GMs walked away saying he's a Top 2 talent pic.twitter.com/4BMDhzO0IW

Porzingis very well could be great, but it would be quite the bold move for the Lakers to take him at No. 2. There have been a lot of teams looking for “The Next Dirk” over the years, and that hasn’t gone well lately. Perhaps this kid actually pans out and is a big-time NBA player, but he has a lot of work to do and almost certainly isn’t as ready to contribute as a player like Okafor.
