Kobe Bryant suffered a third consecutive season-ending injury this past year when he tore his right rotator cuff in January, and slowly but surely he’s making progress in his rehab as he prepares for the upcoming season. Bryant, whose 37th birthday is today, revealed on Instagram that he’s progressed to doing shooting drills:
Kobe is expected to be ready to go full bore at some point during training camp, although there’s no definitive timetable for his recovery. He’s entering the final year of a two-year deal, and there have been rumblings that this upcoming season will be his final year in the league thanks to the injuries and general wear-and-tear on his body. The 2015-16 campaign will be his 20th NBA season.
Kobe really struggled when he was healthy last season, but with more talent on the roster, he shouldn’t have to shoulder so much of the offensive burden. The Lakers are also expected to reduce his minutes and possibly sit him when they play back-to-back games to give his body a break.
