DeMarcus Cousins says the Sacramento Kings have some issues, according to James Ham of CSNBayArea.com.
“We got some issues that we got to, you know, carve out,” a cryptic Cousins said. “Can’t really speak on that, but one thing is, us players, we’ve got to stick together. Just with that, that will get us over or get us through most battles.”
“We got some issues in-house we need to figure out,” Cousins continued.
Cousins was not very specific about what those “issues” might be, but when you’re 1-7, it’s not hard to figure there might be a lot of them. Cousins seemed to feel that a players-only meeting would be the best place to work them out:
“It will be a players only meeting, but just to make it clear, I believe in every single person in this room,” Cousins said. “We just got to stay together. That part I’m not worried about, but it is issues we got to figure out.”
Rudy Gay seemed to agree, speaking at practice the following day:
“It’s within the players and staff,” Gay said. “We just have to get a winning mentality, get together and try to find a way to win these games. I’m not pinpointing one thing or one thing that’s wrong, but it’s obvious. We’ve lost six games in a row, something we have to change and we have to do it fast.”
No one wanted to say what the issues were, but some of it might have something to do with losing focus, such as when a celebrity like Drake walks into the locker room after a crushing collapse and the appropriately sullen ambiance suddenly becomes celebratory.
For those on deadline, the interruption felt like an eternity. Rajon Rondo and Rudy Gay hung out with the entertainer until DeMarcus Cousins returned from the showers. Drake and Cousins are close. The singer was even wearing a Kentucky Wildcats jacket from Cousins’ alma mater.
