Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love has been playing great, which made it strange that he was stuck to the bench during the fourth quarter of the Cavaliers’ 95-90 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night. But interestingly enough, Love told Cavaliers head coach David Blatt to keep him on the bench so the lineup that was on the floor could finish its rally, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.
Cleveland trailed by four heading into the fourth quarter, but a lineup featuring LeBron James, Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith, Matthew Dellavedova and Richard Jefferson put the clamps on the hot Hornets. Because of that, Love was fine staying on the bench:
“I told Coach I was ready, but keep those guys in, see what they can do,” Love said following the 95-90 win against the Charlotte Hornets. “I just thought we were doing a great job. That team was rolling, those five that we had out there were rolling in the fourth. They did a great job.”
Love had 18 points and 16 rebounds in the game, but he’s not exactly a strong defender, so it made some sense to stick with the group that got stop after stop in the fourth quarter in Charlotte. And at any rate, it doesn’t appear that this is a situation like last year when he sat out fourth quarters in 16 games, as he’ll usually be out there down the stretch given his effective play.
