Washington Wizards point guard John Wall will not play in Game 3 against the Atlanta Hawks due to his wrist injury, head coach Randy Wittman said.
Wall injured his wrist in Game 1, and it was revealed that he has five non-displaced fractures in his left hand after taking a hard fall. Wall played 39 minutes in that game, finishing with 18 points and 13 assists. Wall also missed Game 2 of the series.
Ramon Sessions will start again for the Wizards in Wall’s place. Sessions scored 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting in Game 2.
Without Wall playing for the Wizards, the Hawks tied the series 1-1 with a 106-90 victory in Game 2. To call it an uphill battle for the Wizards playing against the No. 1 seed in the East without Wall is an understatement.
The Wizards return home, but the Hawks had the best record on the road in the Eastern Conference.
Washington will rely heavily on Bradley Beal in Wall’s absence. Beal suffered an ankle injury in Game 1, but scored 20 points and added seven assists in Game 2. Paul Pierce is averaging 16 points per game in the postseason and Marcin Gortat is adding 15.2 points per game. Otto Porter Jr. scored 15 in Game 2.
The cupboard isn’t bare for the Wizards, but it looks a lot emptier without Wall.
