Joel Embiid will Likely Miss Next Season Thanks to Another Foot Surgery, per Report

Bill Streicher/USA TODAY Sports

The Joel Embiid story just keeps getting sadder and sadder. Embiid needs another surgery on his foot and is expected to miss the 2015-16 season, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Embiid, the No. 3 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, didn’t play last season because of right foot surgery, but he seemed to be on track to be ready to play at the start of next year. However, he was recently shut down due to a setback in the healing process, and it turns out the setback was bad enough that the foot requires another surgery.

With another surgery upcoming, one has to wonder whether Embiid will ever step on an NBA floor. Pompey says the Sixers are concerned that this setback could be career-threatening, and with each passing day, it’s looking like Embiid’s career will go the route of Greg Oden. Of course, even Oden was able to play in an NBA game.
