Jimmy Butler Tries to Squash Rumors of Beef With Derrick Rose

Mike DiNovo/USA TODAY Sports

There have been rumors out there that Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler and teammate Derrick Rose have a “beef” that stems from how things played out in last year’s playoffs. Both parties have said there’s no problem, but master purveyor of these “beef” rumors Joe Cowley reported Wednesday that Butler isn’t thrilled with Rose’s work ethic.

Butler was asked about this on Thursday, and he brought the heat:

Butler also wanted to make it known that his recent comments about filling a leadership void weren’t meant as a slight to anybody, although some took it that way:

Butler is making it a clear point that he wants to be the team leader this season, and considering his play last year and the work he’s been putting in, there’s nothing wrong with that. There are still some kinks to work out with Rose on the court as they learn to effectively play together, and while that may lead to some tension, it’s hard to imagine there’s a real “beef” between these two extreme competitors. And if things work out, that Bulls backcourt will be scary good.
