The Indiana Fever got a balanced attack from Tamika Catchings, Marissa Coleman and Erlana Larkins to end the New York Liberty season with a 66-51 victory and earn a ticket to the WNBA Finals.
The Fever took an 11-point, 33-22 lead into the second half opened up the lead to 46-28 on a Catchings’ jumper with4:45 left.
But then, Essence Carson sank a 22-foot three-point shot to ignite a rally and the Liberty trimmed the lead to nine at the end of three.
And per the AP report, Spike Lee was there to lead the cheering:
As he’s done at so many Knicks games, Spike Lee was leading the charge from the sideline, trying to spur the Liberty to a monumental rally. The Liberty kept it going to start the fourth as Wiggins scored the first five points of the period to get New York within 49-45.
But alas, for the Liberty, that was the end of the rally. Indiana reeled off the next eight points, and the game was more or less over after that.
Catchings had 14 points, two dimes and four boards. Larkins had 12, eight and four. Coleman added 15, 3 and 1. January Briann contributed eight dimes to lead the passing game and nabbed six steals on the defensive end. Including a 25-foot three at the end of the thrid, Candice Wiggins scored eight consecutive points, and 8:21 in the game, the lead was cut to four. Wiggins scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Liberty.
Indiana will now face the Minnesota Lynx for the second time in the WNBA Finals.
