Greg Monroe to Bucks on 3-Year Max Deal, per Report

The New York Knicks were viewed all along as the favorite for Greg Monroe, but the Milwaukee Bucks have swooped in and snagged the former Detroit Pistons big man:

A max deal for a one-way player in Monroe is a bit much, but the fit in Milwaukee is intriguing and it’s a short-term deal. The Bucks needed an upgrade at center over Zaza Pachulia, and Monroe will provide some offensive juice with his low-post scoring and passing ability.

Monroe certainly has his warts defensively, but Milwaukee has a strong system in place and a bunch of rangy athletes to help cover up his mistakes. A starting lineup of Monroe, Michael Carter-Williams, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker is a lot of fun and could make some noise in the Eastern Conference after a surprise playoff appearance this past year.

As for the Knicks, there have been conflicting reports about whether they offered the max, but this isn’t a huge loss for New York. The Knicks need help in a lot of areas, and overpaying for Monroe could’ve gone poorly. Assuming New York doesn’t surprisingly snag LaMarcus Aldridge or DeAndre Jordan, the Knicks can focus on adding some second-tier pieces as they look to rebuild the team.
