Earlier this past season, the Phoenix Suns had a loaded backcourt featuring Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas. But Dragic and Thomas were dealt away at the trade deadline, and now the Suns are shopping Bledsoe in advance of the 2015 NBA Draft, according to Sean Deveney of Sporting News.
One trade that has reportedly been discussed is Bledsoe and the No. 13 pick to the New York Knicks for the No. 4 pick. That would be a good deal for the Knicks, as they’d get an excellent young guard in Bledsoe to go along with a lottery pick. With that pick, New York could perhaps take a guy like Frank Kaminsky or Trey Lyles, two players the Knicks have had reported interest in.
For the Suns, they’d likely take either D’Angelo Russell or Emmanuel Mudiay at No. 4 to replace Bledsoe. But you have to wonder why the franchise is already so interested in moving on from Bledsoe. Perhaps Phoenix has some buyer’s remorse after giving him a five-year, $70 million deal last offseason, but he’s only 25 and just had a solid season where he put up averages of 17 points, 6.1 assists and 5.2 rebounds in 81 games.
Bledsoe’s had some injury problems in his career, but he made it through this year unscathed, so it seems awfully early to give up on him.
